LMBC - Lawrence Mountain Bike Club IMBA - International Mountain Biking Association

Regular LMBC Rides and Events

The Lawrence Mountain Bike Club's main activity is, of course, mountain biking. Biking is more fun as a social sport, and we organize a number of rides and events throughout the year. These rides are open to all skill levels. Many first-time riders have learned mountain biking techniques as newcomers to our Friday night rides. Skilled riders get the enjoyment of training and competition.

Sunday Scrambler Ride

When: Every Sunday morning
Time: 9:00 A.M.

The trail destination is decided at the previous Sunday Scrambler (list of possible trails: Perry, Kill Creek, SMP, Swope, Smithville, Landhal, Blue River, Dornwood, Governor's, etc). This will be a great way for people to experience trails that are a little farther out, or don't get to go to often. Carpooling is strongly encouraged. Each week we'll post (Yahoo email group, available to LMBC members) the approximate eta at the trailhead for those who do not want to do breakfast.

Location: Meet in downtown Lawrence at ingredient Restaurant (10th & Mass) for breakfast, then carpool to area trails.

New Year's Day Ride

When: Every year on New Year's Day
Time: 12:00 Noon.
Description: This was the inaugural ride of the Lawrence Mountain Bike Club in 1996. Rain, snow, cold — it doesn't matter, we always start the year off by going for a ride at the River Trail then having refreshments at Johnny's Tavern. The New Year's Day Ride is appropriate for riders of all abilities. We begin the ride on the levee and ride to the River Trail where you may opt to ride as much or little of the 9-mile trail as you like before heading back to Johnny's!

Approximately 50 people participated in the 2009 New Year's Day ride:

Location: Meet in the parking lot accross from the Lawrence Visitors Center (Restored Union Pacific Depot) in North Lawrence at the intersection of N. 2nd Street (Mass St.) and Locust Streets, just north of the river (map).
